As a result of years of innovation, Axeda has been awarded seven key patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office and two key patents from the European Patent Office. With its acquisition of Questra Corporation, Axeda owns two additional patents: U.S. Patent #6,377,162 (Medical Diagnostic Field Service Method and Apparatus) and U.S. Patent #7,254,601 (Method and Apparatus for Managing Intelligent Assets in a Distributed Environment). U.S. Patent #6,757,714 and EU Patent #1305712: Reporting the State of an Apparatus to a Remote Computer
Axeda was awarded this patent for a key element of our Firewall-Friendly™ method of communication over the Internet. The patent protects one of Axeda's inventions relating to enabling remote "devices" (machines, appliances, instruments, and computers) to securely communicate their health and status to enterprise computer systems. This technology provides Axeda customers with a secure method of connecting to the Internet that does not require any changes to IT security policies.
U.S. Patent #7,046,134:Screen Sharing
This invention is provided through the Axeda® Safe Access™ feature of the Axeda® Access application. The patent relates to a screen sharing system that allows a viewer to see and control the contents of a remote screen based on a state of the system being controlled. Axeda® Safe Access is applicable to many industries where remote sharing must only occur while a device is in a particular state or condition. In the case of medical equipment, Axeda® Safe Access ensures that operators and patients are kept safe.
U.S. Patent #7,082,460:Configuring a Network Gateway The Network Gateway patent protects one of Axeda's key inventions relating to the ability of a gateway to discover devices, report those devices back to a central server, and receive configuration files based on the type of devices discovered. Using the Network Gateway technology, which is part of the Rapid-Deploy™ technology built into Axeda ServiceLink, downloaded gateway configurations may be personalized based on the owner, location, or other factors. The technology facilitates large-scale deployments in organizations that manage diverse products with complex lifecycles. U.S. Patent #7,117,239:Reporting the State of an Apparatus to a Remote Computer This patent protects a key invention related to Axeda's secure Firewall-Friendly™ method of communication over the Internet and includes four independent claims that further stregngthen the core technology of the Axeda ServiceLink solution. The state of an apparatus is reported to a remote computer using an embedded device in the apparatus. The embedded device detects the state, generates a message that reports the state using a self-describing computer language, and sends the message to the remote computer. The remote computer receives the message and extracts the state of the embedded device from the message. U.S. Patent #7,149,792 and EU Patent #1350367:Device Registration Mechanism This patent protects key technology relating to a device automatically registering and reporting data to a remote computer, part of the Rapid-Deploy™ technology built into Axeda ServiceLink. The technology dramatically increases the speed at which products can be configured for remote service and support by enabling devices to connect automatically without any human intervention. Without this registration feature, devices require manual set-up, slowing deployment and increasing the potential for configuration errors. U.S. Patent #7,178,149:XML Scripting of SOAP Commands This patent protects Axeda's invention that enables Axeda Agents to retrieve a complex sequence of actions from a device or system, instead of receiving them one at a time and waiting several days for a return action. A computer-implemented method processes a simple object access protocol (SOAP) command. The method includes interpreting an XML script to perform a function contained in the XML script, the XML script containing the SOAP command, parsing the SOAP command from the XML script, and passing the SOAP command to a SOAP interpreter for execution. U.S. Patent #7,185,014 and EU Patent #1504371:Retrieving Data from a Server This patent covers the technology that enables retrieving data from the server securely. With this invention, Firewall-Friendly™ communication is two-way, enabling the system to send actions back rather than just performing basic monitoring. A system includes a server and a controller embedded in a device. Both the server and the embedded controller are capable of communicating over a computer network. The embedded controller sends a command to the server over the computer network that identifies an instance of the device. In response, the server identifies the instance of the device based on the command, retrieves data that is specific to the instance of the device, and sends the data to the embedded controller over the computer network. Axeda has numerous patents pending, both domestically and internationally, that cover various aspects of remote product service technology.
