Hospital Laboratory to Report Success of Axeda and Beckman Coulter Remote Diagnostics System at AACC Annual Meeting

MANSFIELD, MA -- July 24, 2002 - Axeda Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: XEDA) announced today it will host a press conference detailing how remote diagnostics technology promises to revolutionize medical laboratories by increasing instrument reliability.

The press conference, scheduled for Wednesday, July 31 at 2 p.m. at the 54th annual meeting of the Association for Clinical Chemistry in Orlando, FL, will feature a presentation by James D. Peele, Ph.D. director of clinical chemistry at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL. Dr. Peele will discuss how his laboratory benefits from Beckman Coulter's PROService remote diagnostics service program, which uses the Axeda Device Relationship Management System(TM) technology. The technology is available on Beckman Coulter's SYNCHRON LX(R)20 clinical systems, one of the most widely placed series of chemistry analyzers in U.S. hospitals.

Baptist Memorial Hospital, part of the Baptist Medical Center network, uses two SYNCHRON LX20 systems to run close to one million tests a year. As a result of the remote diagnostics technology, the hospital benefits from increased instrument uptime, improved call center support, more efficient maintenance service and other new capabilities.

"This technology is almost like a home security system: You set your alarm and then go to bed. It's a level of security that has enormous practical benefits to healthcare since instrument problems can be addressed before they result in instrument downtime," said Dr. Peele. "At Baptist Medical Center, we have been able to increase instrument uptime and reduce service calls because the technology can identify potential problems before they result in a malfunction. And this often occurs before my staff is even aware of the potential problem."

Added David Bennett, director of medical sales for Axeda and a co-presenter at the press conference, "Now with a full year of field experience with Beckman Coulter, we're able to share real world results that illustrate the remarkable benefits of Axeda DRM. This forum will be very informative for anyone who is interested in understanding how companies are successfully using Internet-based DRM technology to implement effective remote diagnostics solutions for the clinical lab."
