Axeda Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: XEDA), a provider of Device Relationship Management (DRM) software and services, today announced that the first demonstration of a wireless Device Relationship Management solution developed with mobile communications world leader Nokia, will be held at the CTIA Wireless Show (Orlando, Florida, March 18-20). The solution, on view at Nokia's booth # 2439 and in room 108B, combines the Nokia M2M Platform and the Axeda Device Relationship Management System to demonstrate how businesses in multiple markets can utilize Universal Wireless Connectivity™ to offer automated monitoring, management, service and re-supply of remote and mobile devices via wireless communications and the Internet
This demonstration is an outcome of the announcement in January 2002 by Nokia and Axeda Systems that they are teaming up to deliver wireless Device Relationship Management solutions. The combined solution can enable a wide range of devices - such as vending machines, utility meters, medical instruments, and refrigerator trucks - to communicate with the enterprises that service, monitor and manage them using the Axeda DRM™ System and the Nokia M2M (mobile-to-machine, machine-to-machine) Platform. Wireless Device Relationship Management provides two-way communication between remote or mobile devices and the enterprises that build, service and use them.
The joint demonstration at CTIA Wireless will show how wireless Device Relationship Management leverages the power of the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) network and the Internet to enable a vending machine operator to continuously monitor the inventory history, cash utilization, temperature settings, power status and other functional operations of thousands of deployed vending machines.
"When devices report in real-time on their commercial and functional operations, companies can improve service, reduce costs and enhance customer satisfaction," said Jukka Kuusinen, General Manager, M2M Business, Nokia. "What we're proving at CTIA is that now even remote and mobile devices, far from traditional IP networks, can achieve these business benefits. We see this as a key application that will drive the coming explosion in wireless data communications."
"There are millions of devices that today are not accessible by the service and business professionals who need the information locked inside," said Dale Calder, president of Axeda Systems. "Axeda DRM with the Nokia M2M Platform taps the hidden information value of these devices and delivers increased savings and revenue through proactive maintenance, remote diagnostics and automated re-supply and service. Together we are opening new markets for wireless Device Relationship Management worldwide."
The Axeda DRM system is a distributed information management system consisting of software products that interoperate at the device and enterprise to provide users and business systems with real-time device information. At the remote device, Axeda Intelligent Agents monitor device conditions and operational data. On a continuous or regularly scheduled basis, this device information is communicated to the central Axeda Enterprise™ server using Nokia M2M embedded modems, Nokia M2M Gateways, the wireless GSM network, and the Internet. The Axeda Enterprise server aggregates information from hundreds or millions of devices, and stores, analyzes and disseminates it to the people and business systems that rely on it.
Axeda will host a reception and a demonstration of the joint wireless Device Relationship Management solution with Nokia on Tuesday, March 19, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Peabody Hotel, located opposite the Convention Center in Orlando, FL. Please contact Christine Eyre at ceyre@axeda.com or 508-337-9200 for information about attending the reception or to schedule a private meeting at the show.

The intelligent devices that we see and interact with everyday such as copiers, elevators, vending machines, building control units, medical devices, and even automobiles represent an important new source of business information. To date most enterprises have not been able to tap this information. Device Relationship Management addresses this significant information blind spot by providing a distributed information management system that leverages the Internet to allow timely, accurate, and unbiased information to be communicated automatically between devices deployed at customer facilities and external service personnel or enterprise business systems. Device Relationship Management helps turn reactive businesses into proactive businesses providing new sources of revenue and increased operational efficiency at lower costs.
