MANSFIELD, Mass -- January 22, 2004 - Axeda Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: XEDA), the world's leading provider of device relationship management (DRM) enterprise software and services, today announced that Applied Biosystems (NYSE: ABI), an Applera Corporation business, now offers Axeda's DRM solution as an integral part of its BioMonitorSM device relationship management (DRM) service for remote monitoring of the ABI PRISM® 3100 Genetic Analyzer (running Data Collection Software v2.0), and the Applied Biosystems 3730 and 3730xl DNA Analyzers. The BioMonitorSM service allows Applied Biosystems to perform remote monitoring and analysis of the operational parameters from each instrument attached to the system, which, in turn, enables remote - and therefore faster - diagnostics, failure prediction, and notification.
With the BioMonitorSM service, which was developed with Axeda DRMTM technology, service teams from Applied Biosystems can remotely identify a variety of problems, from lasers that need replacement to operational issues, including changes in electrophoresis current. Also, instruments' system problems that arise during data collection can often degrade analysis quality. The BioMonitorSM service helps detects such problems when they occur, which may potentially prevent the loss of valuable samples or sample data.
Applied Biosystems first began deployment of the BioMonitor service early this year, and currently has a number of customers' instruments connected. The success of this deployment has prompted Applied Biosystems to formalize the service and launch it to its customers worldwide.
"The significance of remote monitoring and diagnosis is receiving global recognition for the remarkable benefits that companies can achieve by remotely managing deployed devices," stated Robert M. Russell Jr., chairman and CEO of Axeda Systems. "Applied Biosystems has recognized the significant value of DRM technology and the substantial advantage that Axeda's DRM solution offers over traditional means of customer support."
