Dale Calder, President and CEO
Mr. Calder founded Axeda in 2000 and is responsible for the company’s overall strategic direction and day-to-day operations. With more than 20 years experience in technology, Mr. Calder created the vision for the remote service and support/Intelligent Device Management (IDM) market and the technology required to serve it. Mr. Calder recognized that providing businesses with a real-time connection to their remote assets would revolutionize the way they deliver service and support to their customers. Today, over 100 of the world’s leading product manufacturers use Axeda’s award-winning technology to power their remote service initiatives.

Under Mr. Calder' s direction, Axeda has consistently been at the forefront of innovation and market development, pioneering most of the innovations used in modern remote diagnostics systems. The company' s IP program, established by Mr. Calder, has resulted in ten awarded patents, both domestically and internationally, protecting various aspects of key remote service technology.  In 2009, he was given Pioneer distinction by M2M Magazine, the leading publication for the remote service/M2M (machine-to-machine) market.

Prior to his role with Axeda, Mr. Calder was the founder and president of FactorySoft, a world leader in connectivity tools for the automation industry. As Axeda' s predecessor, FactorySoft supplied device connectivity solutions to over 100 major organizations. Mr. Calder also held positions at Iconics, Inc. and Turning Point Software, where he managed product delivery for Word Perfect Organization. He began his career at Westinghouse Electric as an engineer.

Mr. Calder received a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Duke University. He also attended the M.B.A. program at Carnegie-Mellon University and holds three technology patents. 

Rachael T. McCarthy, Chief Financial Officer
Rachael McCarthy joined Axeda in 2006 and is responsible for overseeing the financial direction for Axeda and managing relationships with the banking and investment community.  Ms. McCarthy has over 18 years of experience in the software industry, and has served as a senior software executive in various finance, legal and business development roles.

Prior to joining Axeda, Ms. McCarthy served as Vice President and General Counsel of Unica Corporation, where she was a key contributor to the company's growth from early stages through its initial public offering in August of 2005.  Prior to joining Unica, Ms. McCarthy provided strategic business advisory services and served in various senior management positions such as vice president of business development, chief financial officer, and general counsel for several application software and internet companies, including WebHire, Inc., Authoria, Inc., Interlynx Technology Corp., Nequity Corp., Liquid Software, and RealityWave, Inc.

Ms. McCarthy holds a BS in Finance from the University of Delaware, and a JD and LLM in Taxation from Boston University School of Law.  A certified mediator, she has served as a conference presenter on various topics related to business development and the law, and as an adjunct professor in the Babson College MBA program.

James R. Hansen, Chief Technology Officer
An Axeda co-founder, Mr. Hansen is the head architect for Axeda® ServiceLink, the industry's leading Internet-based remote service software. In his role, he sets the direction of the product design and functionality for everything from the embedded cross-platform agents to the J2EE application server. Mr. Hansen is also the recipient of seven USPTO patents related to the Axeda ServiceLink product.

Mr. Hansen joined Axeda ten years ago from FactorySoft, where he was principal software architect, providing technical direction for the company's OPC technology initiative. While there, he created the most widely used OPC toolkit for standards-based factory automation. With 23 years of experience in software and hardware design, Mr. Hansen has designed a multitude of hardware interfaces and software data acquisition and control systems on Windows and Linux, as well as VxWorks and other embedded kernels.

Previously, Mr. Hansen was senior software architect for an industrial automation software company, where he led the development of a graphical configurator for Windows NT and contributed to the design of other 32-bit products. Mr. Hansen also headed the design at Dynamic Solutions and Waters Corporation for chromatography software and data acquisition boards. At Waters Corporation, he received the highest innovation award given by the company. Early in his engineering career at Teledyne, Mr. Hansen designed a NASA simulator and various avionics systems.

Mr. Hansen has a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from UCLA and a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from California State University, Northridge.

Richard MacKeen, Executive Vice President
Mr. MacKeen co-founded Axeda and is responsible for running the on-demand business. Mr. MacKeen's responsibilities include the on-demand center, support, and services organizations. With more than 25 years of experience in the development and management of world-class product and service organizations, he has personally driven the success of Axeda's rapidly growing customer base. As a seasoned operational executive with experience in all phases of Axeda's business, he architected the company's Total Quality Initiative (TQI) and is the main driver behind Axeda's Maximum ResultsSM services.

An industry pioneer in the market for remote services, Mr. MacKeen is responsible for several innovations including delivery of the first product to market and the first successful customer implementation. He has helped leading global companies develop business cases for remote service technology and managed the deployment programs that delivered best-in-class results.

Prior to joining Axeda, Mr. MacKeen co-founded FactorySoft, the industry leader in connectivity tools for the Industrial Automation market. At FactorySoft he was responsible for the technology and the delivery of product to more than 100 major organizations. Mr. MacKeen has also held a variety of management and development positions at Iconics, Sapient, Telco System Corporation, Analog Devices and EG&G. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Northeastern University.

Brian Anderson, Vice President of Marketing
Brian Anderson joined Axeda in the fall of 2001, and is responsible for marketing at Axeda including product marketing, marketing communications, and programs. During his tenure at Axeda, Mr. Anderson has been integral to both the marketing and product strategy of the company, resulting in Axeda's position as the market leader.

Mr. Anderson has over 20 years of software marketing and product development experience with a strong background in Web-based business applications, application servers and infrastructure, databases, and development tools.
Prior to joining Axeda, Mr. Anderson was director of strategic development and product management at Art Technology Group. He has also held senior marketing roles at Lotus Development, Progress Software and Centerline Software.

Mr. Anderson holds a bachelors degree in computer science from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Stephen Habermas, Vice President of Products
Steve Habermas joined Axeda in September of 2008 and serves as Vice President of Products, leading Axeda's world-class product management and software development teams.  Habermas brings extensive development experience for remote connectivity and location-aware functionality, and a proven ability to turn visionary ideas into exceptional products. 

As Chief Technologist at OnStar®, he led the creation of the system architecture for remotely managing the software embedded in in-vehicle devices.  Most recently as vice president of technology for Tele Atlas, he led the design and implementation of the digital map maker's Global Production Platform.  He also led Tele Atlas' adoption of Scrum and Agile software engineering processes. 

Habermas' success in the commercial sector stems from his experience as a U.S. Navy officer, where he was responsible for the daily operation of the 165-person, $1.8 billion USS Nebraska submarine.

Habermas graduated with distinction from the US Naval Academy with a BS in electrical engineering.  He also earned a MS in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business.  He holds five technology patents, is an Agile software engineering process expert, and was a keynote speaker at the Scrum Alliance Conference in 2007.

David Canavan, Vice President, OEM Sales & Business Development
David Canavan joined Axeda in 2007 and is responsible for driving Axeda's strategic alliances and channel sales.  Mr. Canavan has an extensive background in the software industry that includes over fifteen years of experience in leading business development and channel sales initiatives at several information security organizations.

Prior to joining Axeda, Mr. Canavan led the business development efforts for AirTight Networks, a leader in wireless intrusion detection.  He has also held a number of executive-level positions at network security organizations, including Foundstone/McAfee, nCipher, and RSA Security.  He began his career with Digital Equipment Corporation.

Mr. Canavan holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College. 

Matthew Ferry, Vice President of Worldwide Sales
Matthew Ferry joined Axeda in 2008 and is responsible for the worldwide sales organization.  Mr. Ferry is a proven enterprise technology sales veteran with extensive experience in software, secure mobile computing and Internet related technologies. He also has deep expertise in On-Demand sales models.

In his 20-year career, Mr. Ferry has built several world-class sales organizations. As VP of Channel Sales at iPass Inc., he played an instrumental role in driving the company's rapid growth from an early stage start-up to the nearly $200 million worldwide leader in secure mobile computing. He was also a key contributor to the company's $112 million IPO - one of the most successful of 2003.   

Prior to joining iPass, Mr. Ferry was Director of Sales for Fiberlink Communications, where he built a highly efficient sales team focused on selling a full range of high-end hosted solutions and services including remote access, firewalls and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).  He began his career with the technology arm of Hough Petroleum and holds a bachelors degree in business from Rowan University.
